Manufacturers rely on in-line atmospheric plasma treatment to improve bonding of adhesives on plastics, metals, composites, and glass surfaces. Plasma pretreatment cleans surfaces by removing contaminants. The process also etches surfaces creating more bonding sites to facilitate stronger bonds and air plasma’s ability to functionalize surfaces activates their receptiveness to adhering with all types of glues.

Enercon has created a new micro website with content dedicated to how plasma surface treating improves adhesion for industrial applications. Examples include surface treating in the automotive, consumer goods, window and door, decorating and packaging industries.  Visitors can learn from customer application stories, technical papers, webinars, e-books and videos.

Plasma treaters are effective for use with cold glue, hot-melt, pressure sensitive and UV curable adhesives. They can be integrated into existing production lines or designed as part of a new work cell. In many cases the plasma treaters are combined in the same operation with adhesive dispensing equipment. It is a best practice to treat the surface right before applying the adhesive or glue, although some materials will hold the benefits of treatment for hours or days.

Manufacturers who employ plasma as part of their process benefit from increased product quality, greater throughput and less scrap.
